Mojotone Studio One 1 Watt, 2 Channel Guitar Tube Amp Kit

Tired of playing through those kiddie practice amps that lack tone as much as they do quality? Try our Mojotone Studio One Amplifier and bring awesome tube tone to your home or studio. Equipped with a single 12BH7, two 12AX7 tubes, and a 12AY7, this tiny amp works well in the studio or mic’d up on stage. And don’t be shy to put some pedals in front of it either, because it does play nicely with them.

About one watt of output sounds awesome for studio or home use! This is an ideal amp for the gain of an 800 style amp at low volumes. Stock setup includes 12BH7 for running as an output tube, however you can run a 12AU7 or 12AT7 for less output volume.

When purchasing a kit from Mojotone, you will receive the following documentation.

1. Schematic

2. Wiring Diagram / Layout

If you purchase a kit from Mojotone and do not receive these documents, you can obtain copies by emailing tech@mojotone.com or calling 800-927-6656. The Mojotone staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST unless otherwise closed.

Mojotone kits include the best quality parts that are available at the time of purchase. If a substitution is required, our team will use parts that are of equal quality to ensure the integrity of the kit build remains the same.

Building a fully functional amplifier kit is not an easy task. Before building a kit, one should have the ability to properly solder as well as read and understand a schematic and wiring diagram. While we do our very best to ensure all documentation is current, the included documentation is meant to serve as an overall guide to building the amplifier. Simply following the schematic and wiring diagram does not guarantee you will have a fully functional amplifier. In fact, post build troubleshooting is a common issue across all builds.

Our staff is available to assist with basic troubleshooting needs. There are plenty of online videos available that are helpful with most post build issues. Technical staff is available via email by sending a message to tech@mojotone.com. You may also call our sales team to discuss build problems, dial 800-927-6656 and press 1 for sales.

Building a tube amplifier takes time, dedication, resources and most importantly... Skills! The experience of building an amp can come with some frustration, the reward of completing the build is definitely well worth your time. Please review the wiring diagram, schematic and manual (if applicable) prior to making your purchase. Mojotone will not accept any returns on amplifier kits and/or parts that have been assembled, soldered or modified.

Great addition to my collection

"This kit was my first ever amp build. I had some electronic technician experience in my distant past, but that was many, many years ago. The kit showed up with every part present and accounted for. Parts choices seemed just fine. Before jumping in I watched a few videos about building tube amp kits to get an idea of what I was going to be doing. I also bought proper tools to do the job. I did: 1) attach hardware, 2) laid out turret board, 3) attached turret board, picked a spot and then went clockwise around the inside of the chassis completing the wiring. I went slowly and checked my work as I went. I took me about 2 hrs per day for 5 days in all. Could have done it more quickly but I had no hurry. Happily, this kit has ample room in the chassis to work so it never felt cramped. Then I pushed it away for a couple of days. I came back and rechecked everything again. I never actually found any mistakes other than a few questionable solder joints. When satisfied, I powered it up and it worked straight away. I live in an apartment which is what drew me to the 1 watt amp. 1 watt is still pretty loud for an apartment so at the same time I built an attenuator. In practice, since the lead side has a master volume it really doesn’t need an attenuator. But the 5E3 side does need one if you want to push it. It works well too, to change channels I just hit the foot switch and either turn the attenuator on or off. It has an excellent sound, both sides. I’m very happy with it. I have also built a Mojotone Tweed Deluxe kit for my son and I have to say it probably sounds better than the Studio One, on the clean side that is. Can’t put my finger on it, just a bit more shimmer, maybe it’s the 6v6s. But I’m fine with that. I put the amp in the Blackface head cabinet from Mojotone. It sits on top of a Suhr Badger head and I have to say the cabinets look identical other than the Suhr badge. I play the amp through a Celestion Blue speaker which sounds great. Was a very satisfying experience. One day I hope to build a Deluxe Reverb amp, probably from Mojotone."

This thing is awesome.

"This thing is awesome. It was my first build and Mojotone was very helpful and responsive to my numerous questions. The clean channel is really nice and the lead channel sounds great, especially with a strat with a boost pedal. It is very responsive to guitar volume changes and it handles all my pedals great. It responds better to subtle pick dynamics than my JVM. I'll be building another kit soon."

This amp really sounds impressive.

"This amp really sounds impressive. Clean channel really shines on my strat. Very sweet sounding. And the gain channel take over from there, from mild crunch up into high gain while still sounding rich and tight. This was my first amp build, and while I wouldn't recommend to just anyone, someone with some electrical background and safety knowledge should be able to figure it out with a little research."

This amp rocks like it's bigger brothers

"Just finished the Studio One kit and it fired up flawlessly the first time. It sounds awesome! I have finally found the big amp tube distortion I've been searching for, at a volume suitable to small studio or bedroom. And it is so quiet at idle, I thought it wasn't working until I strummed the strings and it sang out. Dead quiet until maxed out gain and volume, and then only a slight, hardly noticeable hiss. Mojotone did a great job on this amp. Get one, you'll love it."

Great tone at a manageable home level

"Assembled kit with relative ease from schematic and diagram. I had previously built a Mojotone 5e3 kit, but this amp was both easier (turrets) but slightly more complex than the 5e3. I mismanaged the 18ga bus wire, but over all everything was pretty straight forward and it fired up first try. Sound great!!"

Great Amp

"Just finished off this amp. Great sounding distortion on "Marshall" channel. I play the pedal steel and wanted a distortion sound kind of amp for home playing. Great sounding when playing single note runs and chords too. Chords don't mush out with this amp. Not to say you hear all three notes at once in a sustained chord just a great melding of sound. If you want low volume distorto crunch with a lot of character this amp delivers. I'm surprised the amp isn't as bright as I wanted but what I hear is fine for midrange sleeze when playing slide guitar type of riffs."

Extremely fun amp to play with an awesome range of tones!

"Not really a kit builder, I like to do scratch builds, but the Mojo Studio 1 kit is amazing. All the parts are top-notch and the large-sized wiring diagram and schematic are nice. My kit arrived nicely packaged with everything wrapped and protected by paper and bubble wrap. I'd recommend that kit builders watch the videos and note the lead dress. I took screenshots from the videos and used the jpeg pics to get an idea how Mojo builds it out. Considering the lead channel is really high gain, it is impressive how quiet it is, even with the gain control and master cranked all the way. Extremely fun amp to play with an awesome range of tones!"

Overall, the amplifier is what I was looking for.

"Overall, the amplifier is what I was looking for. It has a great JCM 800 sound in the lead channel, and the clean channel gives you more of a JTM vibe than a sparkling clean. It is plenty loud for bedroom/studio playing with a 1X12 speaker. My main problem was with the quality of the kit itself. The kit chassis was missing a hole for one of the 12AX7 preamp tube sockets! I had to drill it, which wasn't too much of a big deal since I had the tools but I would expect the chassis that comes with the kit to be perfect. Also the rear plastic faceplate's hole for the impedance selector is too small to fit the shaft through and that will need to be drilled larger. For me these issues aren't dealbreakers but I could see this mattering much more to someone who doesn't readily have these tools available. I wouldn't suggest this kit to beginners because there are no step by step directions"

This is my 4th build, and it's probably the most fun so far!

"This is my 4th (first non-Fender style) build, and it's probably the most fun so far! I received the kit for Christmas and promptly put it together- zero issues. Well, there was one issue where I put a 12AU7 where a 12AX7 belonged- but that's on me for not paying attention.. Since this is a unique kit, I reached out to Mojotone for the target voltages and got a prompt response with the exact info. All the voltages checked out and I've been rocking ever since! It's deceptively loud, yet completely quiet at idle. Very much a "pro" sounding amp and not a toy. Regarding assembly: I did have to enlarge a hole in the back panel as mentioned in a different review, as well as drill 2 holes to mount the board properly. I don't count that against Mojotone at all, because if you're measuring parts and soldering them into an amp (even as a novice) you should have basic tools like a power drill. It required the least amount of effort and less than 5 minutes of my time to set all of that straight."

Great low power amp, very versatile. Pure tube sound.

"Built this as my first kit. I've worked in the electronics field for 40 years so wasn't worried about soldering skills etc. It was still a pleasant challenge to build this, and it sounds GREAT! I followed the lead dress shown in the diagram provided with the kit and have an amp with very little to no noise. The only change I would make is to swap where the clean and dirty channels enter the relay board. Then the red LED would come on with the dirty channel. I drilled a hole and mounted the LED just beneath the jack for the switch pedal and its a bit confusing that it is located by the dirty channel controls but comes on when the clean channel is selected. Minor gripe but thought I'd mention it. One of these days I'll change it due to my OCD LOL. All in all I'm very pleased with the way it turned out, it's definitely a keeper. Dirty channel has a nice crunch and clean channel is very clear."
