Includes Mojotone Pickup Coil Winding Machine, all necessary supplies to build a humbucker, a Tele bridge pickup, and 3 Strat pickups, the two-day Pickup Winding Workshop, and catered lunches.


 

Tools & Supplies: All tools and shop supplies will be provided for your use during the class.

What to Expect: You will spend two days with our instructors who will guide you through winding and wiring concepts, construction of finished pickups, and the use of our industry-favorite Mojotone Pickup Coil Winding Machine. You will be winding by hand, soldering, wax-potting and actually assembling working pickups. Hosted and led by MojoTone’s Pickup Designer and Guitar Production Manager, Nick Eldred, this two-day program will take you through the builds of three different types of pickups, including humbucker, Tele and Strat style pickups. You will be guided through the build process, learn how to use your new Mojotone Pickup Coil Winding Machine, learn to hand-guide wire onto coils in different patterns, learn the concepts and designs behind the most popular pickup types on the market, and learn the steps to finish a pickup that is ready to wire into an instrument. Instructors are on hand to quickly address any questions and to help troubleshoot issues if you run into a problem. By the end of the two-day workshop, you will have built several of your very own pickups to enjoy for years to come and have a better understanding of the components and differences between all types of pickups. Plus, you will have your very own Mojotone Pickup Coil Winding Machine to take home and keep applying what you have learned!

DO I NEED TO HAVE ELECTRONICS OR SOLDERING EXPERIENCE?

Not at all, we’ll teach the basics. If you're comfortable with soldering, that’s great, but it's not a requirement.

WHAT KINDS OF PICKUPS WILL WE WIND?

You'll learn how to wind single coils (Strat set & Tele Bridge pickups) and Humbuckers. 

WILL I LEARN ABOUT VINTAGE PICKUP SPECS AND TONE?

Yes we cover the differences between vintage and modern materials, winding styles, and magnets, and how these affect tone.

WILL I LEARN TO POT PICKUPS AND TEST THEM?

Absolutely. You'll go through the full process including wax potting and tone testing.

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

No tools are required. We provide everything, including winding machines, magnets, wire, bobbins, and wax for potting.

IS THIS CLASS BEGINNER-FRIENDLY?

Yes, the class is designed to be approachable for beginners while still offering a lot of depth for experienced builders or techs.
