Mojotone Crandellcaster Standard Edition 62 Strat® Prewired Pickguard
Prepare to turn your Strat into a musical time machine! Mojotone was lucky enough to get our hands on an original 1962 Fender Stratocaster, bought by Wayne Powell Crandell in 1962 and left to his son upon his passing. This guitar perfectly exemplified the simple elegance of early Stratocasters, marked with the scars of forgotten adventures, and one listen let us know that it still had plenty of stories to tell. (See the video here.) So naturally, Mojotone was inspired to do what we do best: recreate this sound so that you can have it too!
To capture the magic of 1962, we made everything exactly to the specs that Fender used at the time: hand-beveled Alnico 5 rod magnets, vulcanized fiberboard flatwork, a non-RWRP middle pickup, and lightly wax potted coils hand-wound with 42-gauge Formvar coil wire. And now they are available in an easy-to-install pre-wired pickguard, with a musical Mojotone Dijon .047uF tone capacitor, Mojotone/CTS Vintage Taper potentiometers and a durable CRL 5-way switch for standard access to every position. Plus, you can choose the color of the pickguard and pickup covers!
Of course, components mean nothing if the tone isn't there, so we put a great deal of time and effort into giving these the sound and feel of original 1962 Strat pickups. It is like being transported back to the year when John Glenn first orbited the Earth, the Twist was the latest and greatest dance craze, and the world was about to hear Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and The Beatles for the first time. For many of us, buying an actual 1962 Strat is a virtual impossibility, but our Crandellcaster 1962 Clone Strat Standard Prewired Pickguard will get you as close to that tone as you can get without robbing a museum.
René Martinez was originally Stevie Ray Vaughan's hand-picked guitar tech. He also worked with Eddie Brickell, Mick Jones of Foreigner, Clint Black, Prince, The Moody Blues, Jimmie Vaughan, Carlos Santana, and currently John Mayer. You can find out more about his amazing career here. Mojotone is excited and honored to have worked with such a renowned luthier to develop our René Martinez "Texas" Strat® Pickups.
The magnets are customized Alnico III in the neck and middle and Alnico V in the bridge to give a full and balanced tone. You get that clean, ultra clear neck and middle tone that lets your amp shape your tone, while the bridge pickup is hotter with more girth and punch, and a sonic clarity that cuts through with attitude. The coils are calibrated from neck to bridge for an even volume throughout the switching.
Be the first in your town to own a set designed by such an acclaimed luthier. These come stock with staggered magnets with a raised D specifically for unwound 3rd string sets. RWRP middle position to be hum-cancelling in positions 2 and 4. Vacuum potted coils.
All of our pickups are proudly built inBurgaw, NC!
